Welcome to the Boo Knits 2019 Summer MKAL 2019!

Venus Rising is a beaded and lacy, top-down, crescent shaped shawl designed to be knit in almost any solid coloured, or semi-solid, laceweight yarn of around 800m/100g with the exception of alpaca-based yarns – you will need a yarn base that will retain its shape after blocking.

The pattern will be released in six clues as detailed below. Each new clue will be added to the previous clue(s) so you have an up to date pattern. An updated and complete pattern will be sent to all purchasers after the MKAL has finished. You might like to check each update as you may not need to print out the entire pattern on each release.

All clues will be released in July 2019: -
Clue One – 1st
Clue Two – 5th
Clue Three – 8th
Clue Four – 12th
Clue Five – 15th
Clue Six – 19th

Size: As written 80” (204cm) wide, 19.5” (49cm) deep after blocking. Measurements taken using Fyberspates Gleem Lace 800m/100g. Final measurements will depend on yarn used, tension and blocking and are given as a guide only.

Circular Needles: 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 4mm (US6) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape.

You will also need: stitch markers, just under 1050 Miyuki or Toho size 6 seed beads, 1mm crotat hook or 0.75mm crochet hook, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.

As always, we ask you to use the placeholder for the front page of your project, until the final clue has been released, so as not to spoil the mystery for other knitters. Click on the photograph above left and when the large image opens you can copy and paste the image address on to your own photo section of your Project Page. Remember that when you add progress photographs to your Project Page these will automatically become the front page so you will need to ensure the Placeholder remains as the first photograph.

Please see the Boo Group for separate threads for the MKAL with one that will be ‘spoiler free’ for those who like to keep the mystery alive!

The pattern is both fully written and charted with bead placement clearly indicated throughout.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer, however coloured pencils could be used to highlight aspects of the pattern and bead placement.
