Vintage Wheel Square
Basic wheel square motif can be worked in one, two or more colors and used individually as coasters, tablemats, cloths or joined in any arrangement for scarves, placemats, pet pads, shawls, lapghans, throws and afghans.
Yellow/pink/green/tan/brown/fuschia squares worked in Tahki “Cotton Classic” on size G hook. Fuschia border on teal square is a variation from the shell border stated in pattern.
Scarf shown was made with 11 squares (in Halcyon Victorian 2-ply wool) joined in a strip and bordered with shell stitch. See related blog post http://designsbykn.com/blog/2011/07/23/practice/
Thread table mat worked with bedspread wt. cotton thread on size 5 (USA) steel hook. Four squares worked with shaded centers and white borders, finished off with six ch-3 loops on each side for join-as-you-go method. Shell border added all around.
Table topper (or lapghan) in Reynolds “Saucy” (pink/gray/white multi) worked in join-as-you-go method by adding ch-2 loops every 4th st on last round of squares, joining with sl st as-you-go (16 seven-inch squares joined for finished size of 28” square)
