I am very inspired by the emPower People project, and have created this machine knit version of the Bandana for those of us who love our machines. “Vote Your Purple” was created to encourage everyone to vote in our elections, and embrace equity and equality on our planet. It’s up to us to ensure that every citizen has a voice. Wear this bandana with pride as you shop, craft, vote, and encourage your friends and loved ones to participate in our democracy.

This machine knit style has been written for both fingering weight on the standard machine and worsted weight on the bulky machine. There are 3 versions. The first is a plain knit for beginners. The second version includes eyelets for a lacy edge that resists the stockinette roll. The third version is knit with the holes of the increases filled up for a flatter effect. This pattern is also written as a recipe so that the knitter can determine the appropriate size by measuring while knitting.

From the emPower people project - “emPower people is a purple colored craftivism project aimed at uniting crafters to spark conversation, engagement, and action. Wear it when you vote, grocery shop, march, or knit in your socially isolated bedroom. We would love to see a sea of purple to represent unity so please tell your friends, family, knitting groups, or anyone who can knit, crochet, or sew a simple pattern. Make a bandana and a commitment to vote!”

In order for us to lift each other up, I encourage you to use yarns from independent dyers and in natural fibers. However, this pattern will work for any yarn in fingering weight for the standard machine OR in DK or Worsted weight for the Bulky.
