“Those who are not already able to knit a sock or a mitt, will find some kind neighbor ready and willing to teach them, it will be nice work on the voyage out.”(i)

These lacy mitts were inspired by an historic mitten design, Pattern #11, from Home Work, a Choice Collection of Useful Designs for Crochet and Knitting Needle, (ii). It is as lovely and functional today as it was when the young women emigrants arrived in Canada to begin life as pioneers in the 1800’s.

Originally offered by elann.com as a free pattern. Visit international.elann.com to see currently available free patterns.

Over the years elann.com has offered a variety of free patterns to showcase elann brand yarns – this was one of them. As elann’s new site, international.elann.com, develops, many of these longtime favorite designs will be re-formatted and made available for purchase. This will be a time-consuming process, which we hope to accomplish by the end of 2015, so we ask for your patience.

Throughout this process, on a rotating basis, we’ll be offering 6 free patterns per month at international.elann.com. They’ll be free for one month, and then subsequently available for purchase as .pdf downloads. We encourage you to visit international.elann.com often to see our latest offerings.
