A light and lovely lace cable wrap begins with a back panel of leaf and berry motifs painted in delicate stitchery. Each end is then picked up from a long edge of this panel, and worked in an easy repeat down to a wide border. The theme continues in narrow asymmetrical panels, and ends in a tiny leafy edging.

The size is determined by the yarn used, with an adjustment in length possible by working a different number of row repeats. Although the yarn used for the sample is classified as DK, it is much thinner than many other yarns in this category, more in keeping with sport weight. The gauge is given in stockinet, so that a suitable substitute can be easily found. The pattern sample was knit with 5.25 skeins of Silky Wool.

The original stitch patterns in this piece all consist of both lace and cable techniques. Each section is charted, and row-by-row knitting directions are given in full. A printed version is also in the works.

While knitting the sample a Cedar Waxwing landed on my lap, then grasped the knitting needle for a moment before flying away, naming the wrap for me.

Errata:
Row 11 directions should state “purl to last 4 sts” (chart is correct)
