Where’s Smeaton? is a stripy beanie crocheted top down with two shades of dk cotton yarn. This one in red and white was inspired by Smeaton’s Tower in Plymouth, England, and by the Where’s Wally? books.

ONE SIZE ONLY
This fits a 19” head comfortably loosely (like a slouchy beanie) or a 22” head snugly (like a standard beanie).

You’ll need a 4.5mm hook and 2x 50g balls of dk yarn in contrasting colours. Please note that I only had about a metre left of the main colour (red in my example) so take that into account if you swap to a different yarn.

This pattern uses the technique “hdc through the third loop” to produce that “sideways knit stitch” effect. There is a great tutorial for this stitch here:
