The Whoville slippers (name was inspired by a family member who told me that they looked straight out of a Dr. Seuss book) are super warm thrummed slippers. Thrums are little bits of wool roving that you can knit into your work so that one side ends up all fuzzy.

These thrummed slippers are knit completely in garter stitch, which makes the thrums look bigger on the knitted side, kind of like big floofy hearts. I included as many thrums as possible in the pattern because I wanted it to be as fuzzy on the inside as it could be! The slippers are made with bulky wool yarn, so they knit up really quickly and have a thick sturdy base.

This is an intermediate level pattern and knitters should know how to do a provisional crochet cast on, knit flat and in the round, pick up and knit stitches, do decreases, and make and knit thrums.

If you have never made or knit with thrums before, then you can check out the videos below for how to do it. It’s simpler than it seems.

I’ve also made a pdf photo tutorial for how to make and knit thrums that is included in the pattern.

The adult sizes are small, (medium, large, x-large)
Yardage is 70y/64m (80y/73m, 85y/77m, 90y/82m) for a slipper pair.
You also need 4-5 oz of wool roving per slipper pair.

I wrote up instructions for children’s sizes as well, however I couldn’t find test knitters for them. If you are interested in trying them please pm me.
