Window Rock Poncho is named after a small city that serves as the seat of government and capital of the Navajo Nation. It lies adjacent to the Arizona and New Mexico state line.

Version 3, released In 2021 includes directions to knit the piece entirely in the round. Instructions have been added to complete the double stitch from the wrong direction. This makes the piece much easier to knit

The poncho is knit in the round, seamlessly from the top down. Slipped stitches are used to create the “window” effect and short rows are used in the body of the poncho. Unused yarn can be carried up the back.

2 skeins of fingering weight yarn are needed to knit this poncho. Knitters imagination. Two solids, a solid Main Color and a long repeat Contrast color, 1 solid and several mini skeins; 1 solid and a gradient… Many possibilities! Any fingering weight yarn may be used.

The multi colored poncho (size M) used 1 skein of Desert Bloom Yarns Crazy Ball (MC); (410 yards/375 meters) - a four color, long repeat skein and 1 skein (CC); 370 yds/338 meters) of Desert Bloom Yarns Classy Fingering.

The natural and blue poncho (size S) uses 1 skein of fingering weight (MC) (390 yards/357 m) and several partial skeins. 118 yards/108 meters of light blue; 110 yards/101 meters of medium blue and 125 yards/114 meters of dark blue. (Total of 355 yards/323 meters of CC)

The black and off white poncho size S used 349 yarns of Luxury Ironwood and 320 yards of Luxury Black Elderberry

The S has a 24”/61 cm neck circumference and is 23”/59cm measured flat at the bottom edge and 19”/48 cm long.
The M has a 26”/66 cm neck circumference and is 27”/69 cm measured flat at the bottom edge and is 19”/48 cm long.
The L has a 26”/66 cm neck circumference and is 29”/74 cm measured flat at the bottom edge and is 19”/48 cm long
All sizes are adjustable in length and neckline width.

The short row sections use approximately:
6.5/7/8 grams of MC and 6.8/7.5/ 8 grams of CC for each 8 round section
