Winter Nocturne is a textured triangular shawl worked from the top down in alternating sections. The pattern contains both written instructions and charts.

The pattern offers two sizes: small (kerchief) and large (shawl). The sample is shown in size large.

Small: 42” (107cm) wingspan, 18.5” (47cm) spine
Large: 62” (158cm) wingspan, 27.5” (70cm) spine

Skill Level:

The pattern assumes firm knowledge of and experience with basic Tunisian crochet techniques, specifically how each row is worked as two separate passes, how to work basic Tunisian stitches and increases, as well as how to bind off your work.

A picture tutorial, walking through the first rows, including an unusual method of creating a nice clean top edge is included in the pattern.

Materials and Tools:

  • Malabrigo Sock: 100% merino wool, 440yd / 402m per 100g skein, shade 807 Cote D’Azure, 2 (3) skeins or approx. 600 (1,200) yd / 550 (1,100) m of light-fingering weight/3-ply yarn
  • Tunisian crochet hook with extension in size H 8 (5mm) or size needed to achieve gauge
  • Standard crochet hook in size K 10½ (6.5mm) for base chain
  • Removable stitch marker
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
