2015 is the Year of the 羊, which is probably best translated as “Year of the Horned Ruminant” but more commonly known as the Year of the Goat, the Year of the Sheep, or the Year of the Ram. The Lunar New Year is February 19th – just enough time to knit a lucky ruminant!

This fellow is a little sheepish (long face) and has got your goat (stubborn stance and thin neck), but is belligerently all ram (those horns!). Knit with minimal seams, this pattern demonstrates how different increases and decreases change the shape of the finished product. As the shaping does most of the work, this cuddly ram knits up quickly!

While this pattern can be knit with any weight of yarn (gauge is not important!), it’s good as both a stash-buster and for using up scraps. The pictured rams used:
Red ram: 81 yards MC / 14 yards CC of worsted weight on 2.75 mm DPNs
White ram: 206 yards MC / 84 yards CC of worsted weight held double on 5 mm DPNs

Finished sizes are approx. 6 inches tall by 6 inches long (red ram standing) and 10 inches tall by 10 inches long (white ram standing).
