Not just for summer, this super-slouchy tam is perfect for tucking back hair tossed by summer waves and for slipping on as the nights grow crisper towards autumn. Knit in the round from the bottom up, the lace pattern grows smoothly from the ribbed band. Pattern includes both written and charted instructions, and matches the free pattern Sweet Summer Wristlets.

Blocked gauge: 28 stitches / 36 rows = 4 inches in pattern.

Finished size: 12 inches diameter; 22 inches circumference at band. This large band size fits most women’s heads without crushing their hair! For a smaller/larger diameter, sections of the lace pattern can be omitted/repeated.

Yarn: I used one-and-a-half skeins of The Fibre Company’s Acadia in “Summersweet”, which inspired the tam’s name! This yarn is perfect for the summer/autumn transition, and the silk slubs add dimension to the lace pattern. I used the left-over half-skein to knit my matching Sweet Summer Wristlets.

Materials: Knit in the round on 4mm DPNs; requires 1 stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round. Optional materials include stitch markers to mark the lace repeats and 4.25mm crochet hook for the optional crochet cast-on.

Stitches used are knit, purl, m1 (or your favourite increase), yo, ssk, and k2tog.
