About these patterns
I am many things, but like most people I know, the role that defines me the most is being a mother.
As I write this, my eldest son is 18 years old. Until yesterday, he lived here in Argentina with his family. But now, he’s moved to a foreign country, where he will study for at least four years.
We’ve been preparing for this moment for three years, ever since he first told us about his dream. He did all the hard work: studying, applying, getting his paperwork in order. All we could do as parents was get our hearts ready for his departure. We gave him the strength and confidence to spread his wings and leave without hesitation.
This bundle includes a few things I worked on during the last months of having him nearby. I wanted to send him off with a handful of things made by his mother; to keep him warm, yes, but mostly warm on the inside. I couldn’t bring myself to design anything too complicated. Just two pairs of socks and a beanie, things he’ll reach for often, things that will remind him that his mother loves him more than words can say.
I knitted all my emotions into these pieces. I cried on them tears of grief, of pride, of loss, of hope.
These may not be the most complex patterns I’ve ever written. Perhaps not even the most original. But they are full of meaning. And I feel the need to share them with you.
All proceeds from this collection will go towards supporting my son’s education and life in the US. Thank you so much for supporting him, and for being part of this moment with me.
