Once again I’ve managed to choose a needle size where I only have/can find one circular needle of the necessary size… and it’s not as long as the pattern recommends. Not actually a big deal, except that checking the fit of the circumference around the head isn’t possible. I know my head circumference, though, so I’m measuring HALF the distance (the radius of the nearly-a-circle, rather than the circumference) against a flat ruler.

I’ve knitted hats without ribbed brims before (like the Torsion hat, and I know that without ribbing, the hat’s a little more likely to fit loosely -- and this is SW merino so it will grow. So even though I have a 23.5” head circumference, I’m aiming for a roughly 21.5” measurement with moderate stretch, because the hat will grow AND I want to keep it snug.

Joined, and now working the square. The transition from the 3-needle bind-off to working in the round/square leaves a bit of a gap that I’ll need to sew closed. Otherwise, so cool.
