thought I’d make a hat to go with the ’una cosettina’ mitts I made with Gryla 2 years ago. The Gilitrutt has a lot more lustre and is softer but the colours are a good match.

Started with the cast on for a 20” and found it smallish so then I tried a few rows on 3.5 mm needles. Not happy with the looseness of the stitches so ripped back and started again with the cast on for 22” on 3.0mm. Yarn was just fine after ripping out and I think that this is the best gauge for me knitting colourwork in this yarn.

Finished! Mostly slow because I only had 10 to 15 min in the mornings and evenings to work on it in this busy season. It’s a great hat, I’m glad that I made the 22”, the ribbing is nice and springy in this yarn and the hat itself quite light and very warm! It came out long enough to make a ‘slouchy’ beanie and hold all of my hair ;). It’s soaking in soapy water now so I’ll have blocked pics later.
I would definitely make this again and I’d like to experiment with colourways. I think I’d swatch first tho, and it would be important to have a dark, medium and light so that the pattern doesn’t disappear.

Washed and blocked, all of the patterns look much more crisp and defined. Nice as when I was working on it they looked rather muddled.
Finished gauge after washing and drying flat: 14 rows and 13.5 stitches over 2”
