Wanted to make a scarf to match the boyfriend hat that I made but I was looking for some guidance for gauge and length to help me cast on the right number of stitches and to know when to stop.
My friend asked for a shorter scarf, one that just crosses over in the front and isn’t too bulky and the yarn I’m using is the same weight/thickness, so this looked like a good starting place.

I have decided to make it a 1x1 rib instead of 2x2 to match the hat but to follow the width and length indications for the adult scarf.

Finished! Found a lovely bind-off technique for 1x1 ribbing that made a pretty edge that doesn’t flare - going to use it again the next time I make a pair of toe-up socks
