Update on fit: gave it to my friend and he is super happy both with the fit and the softness of the yarn. He even did the ‘ride the bike with a hat on and get sweaty test’ to see if the wool would irritate his skin and had no problem with this wool. I’m very happy too - now on to the matching scarf!
Super easy, love the yarn (so soft!), hat can be worn 3 ways and looks cool in all of them. Will update for the fit but the prognosis seems good as it is really, really stretchy!
Going to make a scarf/muffler to match.
gauge = 7.5 st x 8 rows per 1” unstretched creates a firm hand
cast on 160 for head circumference of 59.5 cm / 23.5” as pattern indicates a comfortable ‘stretch factor’ of appx. 5”. As my gauge is slightly larger, I’m following the instructions for 160 stitches, however, since the person wearing the hat has a larger crown, I’m going to knit 9” before beginning the decreases so that I’m sure it’s long enough to have a deep enough ‘cuff’ around the bottom.
Beautifully soft and super springy, the wool is a pleasure to knit with and it makes a great pair with the design. It took one skein to knit 4.5 inches
