Notes

A shawl out of my hand dyed, in a colourway that wasn’t selling, because apparently people maybe don’t like green as much as I do? I don’t know, but I have been very fond of this hank since the day I dyed it, so I’m sort of happy I get to knit it up :)

Slight modification to the pattern so far

  • Doing a 4 st edge, instead of 3.
  • picked up 4 sts from the garter tab instead of 3 to accommodate….
  • having a double stitch spine
  • doing paired M1s instead of YOs around the spine (still doing YOs on edges)
  • using bigger needles, too, but that’s not really a modification…
  • only 1 repeat of each chart
  • bound off with a size 10, but with purls instead of knits.

I’m happy to finally be knitting this pattern, since I’ve had my eye on it for ages, just waiting for the right yarn. I never thought I’d be using yarn that I dyed when I first saw it, how awesome is that?

Blocking pictures are after on top, before on bottom.

Size info! For wingspan, spine depth, and length along one side, all in inches.
Unblocked - 44, 24, 31
Pinned while dry - 70, 28, 45
Pinned after wet blocking - 78, 33, 52

This is a good example of why I always suggest wet blocking things, rather than the ‘pin and spritz’ method. In my experience, there is a fundamental difference to the fabric once it gets wet. So unless you never, ever plan on washing something, wet block it at the beginning so it doesn’t surprise you down the road!
