Blogged here!

18June2013: This pattern was a delight to make! It’s really quite well put together. I especially like the short rows used to make the shawl collar.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When picking up wraps for the shawl collar, pay attention to which side you show the wrap! You want it to show on the right side, because the collar will fold over and show the wrong side when worn. This means that when you are on the wrong side, the wrap will be done in the normal way (to hide it). But when you are the right side, knit/purl the wrap the opposite way you would normally do it, so that the wrap is showing on the side facing you. I think I will take pictures of this when I write my blog post, because I’m not sure there is an obvious tutorial for how to show wraps on the right side.

A MOD I WOULD MAKE IN RETROSPECT: While this pattern was very well put together overall, there is a big flaw: you end up with a warped fox-face at the side seam. In my size, I ended up with something that looks like a mini bunny-rabbit (see pic). :( So, do yourself a favor and do NOT add any half-fox, just keep the background even. It will look much better. On the sleeves you can keep the half-faces, because they are on the diagonal from decreases, and look more like sewn patterned fabric.

EMBROIDERY: I wanted a really pointy nubby nose. So, I did 2 french knots next to each other, then wrapped the yarn around the two (almost like attaching a coat button) and secured the yarn. This really gave a great nose. The eyes are single french knots, or a sleepy eye, tacked down in the center with a small stitch.

My fashion model is my humidifier! It is rather perfect and has a nice bowl of a belly like a chubby little baby.

I didn’t even bother with gauge… whatever size it becomes, I just hope it fits during the colder months in Rennes, France where baby will wear it!

This is a rehash of the yarn colorways from my other hipster baby cardigan.

Those foxes will get eyes and noses with embroidery. But I’ve learned my lesson… do all embroidery at once or risk very different from one sleeve to the next! I’m contemplating adding a little fuzz on the inner ears, or black ear tips…
