This block is a little out of the ordinary because there is a “right side up” (my picture has it right side up). Because the center motif is 5-sided but the block ends up 4-sided, you can only turn it one way so that the center star/flower doesn’t look crooked. I need to pay attention when I sew/stitch the afghan together at the end of the year so that I don’t put this block the wrong way up!
Just FYI, in Moogly’s blog post presenting the block #3 pattern, the picture of her block is not right side up, but the picture that comes with the pattern IS right side up.
Oh, and I’m a fairly tight crocheter (which comes in handy for amigurumi!), so after having to add a few extra rounds on the first 2 blocks (for which I used the recommended hooks), I decided to use a J hook for block #3. The result was that the block came out a wee bit floppy and ended up slightly too big. So, I ripped out the last DC round and re-crocheted it with an I hook in HDC.
There are definitely some teeny errors in the pattern but most crocheters will be able to figure out how to fix the errors. Moogly is right that Round 11 should say “DC in next 8 stitches, skipping the chains” rather than “DC in next 10 stitches”; otherwise, the four edges will not have the same number of stitches.
What a difference lighting makes…. The first picture was taken with a flash. The second picture was taken in fairly good natural light with no flash. Looks like two different blocks!!
