I was worried about having enough contrast but as I got a few rows into the color work, I was no longer worried as it looks quite nice.

This is my first foray into color work, so we shall see. I’ve been practicing with scrap yarn, holding one color in left hand and the other in my right. So far it looks pretty good. No major mistakes that I’ve seen anyway. This is a calculated risk as I am knitting them toe-up. I’m working on the gusset and almost to the “crisis point”. This is where I will see if knitting my swatch, counting my rows and stitches in relation to the pattern really equals where I need to be when I begin to work the heel. I want to be sure they fit my “higher than usual instep” feet, as well as wanting to make them higher in the leg., so I decided to risk working them toe-up. I may be tearing them out today and re-working them from scratch. I do wish I had knit the toe double too.

3-21 Almost done. Knit them longer than I intended but have no thought of ripping them out. They should be wonderfully warm. They fit just right.

5-10 Fini’ I didn’t plan on making these quite so long or I would have knit 2 elephants on each side. If I repeat this pattern, which is likely, truly enjoyable and very nice result, I will aim for that modification. Pictures are before blocking, they are even more lovely after.
