I usually prefer working from charts, but I find this pattern is much faster to knit from the written instructions because the designer has done all the stitch-counting for you. (And the written pattern tells you whether you’re knitting or purling on the return rows, and I always have to stop and think about that on charts where you don’t do just one or the other all the way across.) Mosaic knitting gives lots of bang for the buck: looks all nice and intricate, but all you did was knit, purl, or slip stitches. There’s a lead-in section and a finishing section; the main pattern is a 24-row repeat to be worked 20 times.

I’m knitting with a lighter weight yarn, smaller needles, and thus a tighter gauge. At 10 repeats (so, halfway through the pattern), I’ve got just under 24 inches. But I’m still on my first skein of each color, so I’ll keep knitting and consider myself less than halfway through. The designer’s prototype was 66 inches overall, so I’d need another 9 inches (3 more repeats per “half”) to get to her established length.
