Notes

For CJ Kopec’s April SAL. The pic of the fiber is from her website.

12/4/09 - Cast on the capelet. Its a very quick knit so far and very addicting.

I cast on 48 sts divided into 8 sections of 6, using 7 stitch markers I made on the fly (wrapped jewelry wire around a needle case I had. Only thing bigger than the needles I had laying around)

I got through 1 repeat and then about half way through row 4 of the 2nd repeat on one 40 yard skein.

12/20/09 - Restarted the shawl on US 17. Didn’t like the drape on US 13, even knit very loosely. Knitting snug on US 17 is just the drape I wanted. Got a lot done this weekend, 2 repeats for about 8 inches. Awaiting last shipment of fiber, as current yarn will be used up soon. Used 6 stitch markers.

12/22/09 - Shipment of Fiber has arrived. Hope to spin this weekend

(Somewhere in here I got sidetracked for several months with plans for moving from Atlanta to Seattle)

4/13/10 - Finally finished matching stitch markers and row counter and started knitting again. Trying to spin up the rest of the yarn so I have enough to knit with this weekend

4/28/10 - Pulled several finished skeins off the drying rack. Only have two more skeins of unspun singles awaiting the purchase of more silver thread. Better pics of the yarn can be found on my stash page

5/2/10 - I think I’m starting the last repeat. It seems like it will seriously grow when I block it and its already at a decent length. I may have a couple skeins left over.

5/9/10 - Everything is done but the bind-off. Researching stretchy bind-offs. I did 6 repeats, plus ended on row 2 of what would have been a 7th repeat.

5/10/10 - I’ve decided to do the Double Wrapped Cast Off, because I thought it fit the whole theme. In case I decide I want another repeat I will now record how many stitches are between the stitch markets.

(Evidently I missed some increases sadness)

Note: When using the Double Wrapped Cast off (or probably any cast off) for a flat knitted piece, you will not have a tail yarn to finish the last stitch.

To weave in my ends: I followed the side of the shawl and made an extra “bar” on the drop stitch rows, wrapping my end yarn around the “knots” where each row met. I did this til I got to a row 1 & 2 join, where I wove the last of the tail yarn before cutting the excess.

Preblocking: 17” nape of neck to hem, 47” wingspan, 63” length of bottom from wingspan tip to wingspan tip

Blocked: 21” nape of neck to hem, 61” wingspan, 91: length of bottom from wingspan tip to wingspan tip

2/27/11 - Took new pics. The blocking has relaxed a lot since the last pics.
