Mods: Long sleeved w/ reversible baby cable ribbing
used backward loop CO for my increases on
sleeve section and all ribbing sections.
used Jeny Staiman’s stretchy BO (great for
tight knitters) http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/FEATjssbo.php
Great Project!!! Would make more!
Beware: Fitted!
Next time will make it for 16” (shoulder-to-shoulder)
picture of me in it forthcoming! Sad to say that no pic of shrug to be modelled since sister commandeered it from me. I will have to make another one. My second version was in Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Peru is the yarn name and the color is in Thraven, as shown in last 3 pics. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/LilithDow/two-tone-ribbed...
Needles: Addi Turbo Lace US 6 & 4 (32” circ.)
Yarn: used Heathers for depth of color (picture is too light…the dark ball in last picture is the closest color…more a dark teal).
Gauge: used US 8, US 7, & US 6…got closest to gauge w/ US6
Pre-blocked: 20 sts x 27 rows
Post-blocked: 19 sts x 27 rows (will do…considering item is fitted)
Mods:
(1) Did edge increases 2 stitches in
(2) Sleeves: started w/ 50 sts, increased to 58
sts. (my arms are not petite so needed to put
8 increases evenly across row).
(3) Sleeve #1 (no pic) - did not do decreases from
elbow to wrist and cuff was to short…frogged!
(4) Sleeve #2 & 3: Life-line is row before
increases, next lifeline is around elbow area
about 54 rows (8”) from first life-line.
Decrease area from elbow is 6.5” from wrist:
Decrease 1 st from each edge (put
decrease 2 stitches from edge for easier
seaming) every 7th row (do decrease row
6x…a total of 36 rows & will end up w/ 46
sts…about 5”)
Work even for 20 rows (about 3”…re: life-line 3)
(5) Cuff:
Change to US4 & do baby cable rib:
this is an altered version of Barbara Walker’s
baby cable ribbing from her book:
A Treasury of Knitting Patterns (pg. 40)
the baby cable is made via right twist. “k2tog, but leave on needle; then insert right-hand needle between the 2 sts just knitted together, and knit the 1st st again; then sl both sts from needle together” (same concept if doing P-RT…p2tog,
etc.)
Cuff (worked flat):
Row 1: K2, ^P2,K2; rep from ^.
Row 2: P2, ^K2, P2; rep from ^.
Row 3: K-RT, ^P2, K-RT; rep from ^.
Row 4: P2, ^ K-RT, P2; rep from ^.
This gives a reversible effect to cables, so you can fold back cuff or have collar up or down, no wrong side!
Repeat Rows 1-4: 6x (about 3.5”)
BO loosely.
(6) Collar:
realized after the fact that I should have made for size 15” and not 14”. I did not want to rip the body and the sleeves and redo. So I made the collar bigger hoping it will work.
I followed instructions for the Pick up row, then joined in the round…on first round I increased 5 sts on left front, 6 sts on lower back and 5 sts on right front…for a total of 192 sts.
Did reversible baby cable ribbing (4 round repeats)
Collar (work in the round):
Round 1: K2, ^P2,K2; rep from ^.
Round 2: repeat Round 1.
Round 3: K-RT, ^P2, K-RT; rep from ^.
Round 4: K2, ^ P-RT, K2; rep from ^.
Work 4 round repeats - 4x (16 rounds)
Work 1 Increase round
Work 1 Round in rib
Work 1 Increase Round (this is K-RT round)
Work 7 rounds even
Work 1 increase Round (this is K-RT round)
Work 1 Round in rib (this is P-RT round)
Work 1 Increase Round
Work 7 rounds even
a total of 36 rounds!
BO loosely using stretchy BO!
Thank you Stefanie Japel!
