It’s a good thing this pattern is so wonderful, as I’ll be making it again. Because, well… Disaster! I have inadvertently felted my cowl, as I threw it in with a washload, forgetting to change the water temp. I have been wearing this every day, and it’s probably my favorite thing I’ve made - certainly most used. I will have to knit another. In the meantime I’m still wearing it, and it actually isn’t horrible felted -- there’s still some stitch definition -- but I will be making another, at least in time for cooler weather later in the year. (Not that I mind, it was truly a pleasure to knit this pattern -- I’d even planned to make these as gifts for the knit-worthy ladies in my life.)
I just wish I’d gotten a picture of the finished product before I felted it.
I finally decided to use a Purled Lace Bind Off. It looks really nice. Now I just have to wash and block.
3/12: I decided to go ahead and do the last 16-row repeat after all. All I have left to do is bind off and weave in my two ends. I didn’t really get any in-progress photos, mostly because this flew off my needles too quickly. I managed to take one (right after my ball imploded.) I have to bind off and rip back my provisional cast on and bind off there as well. I still haven’t decided which cast on/off to use. I can’t wait to finish this! Isn’t the stitch definition just scrumptious? I love it.
3/11: I’ve changed to the smaller needles and added my second ball of yarn. It’s still moving quickly. I’ve finished the third repeat and am 2 rows into the next. I may decide to finish after row 8 of this repeat, as it may be the perfect length at that point. I don’t know if it will need another 16 pattern rows, especially as I’ve decided this will be my almost-spring cowl, to carry me through the remaining cold days, so I want to keep it on the lighter side.
I know I said it already, but I love this pattern!
I love this pattern. It’s interesting and fun to knit -- It’s moving along very quickly. I’ve finished the first 24 pattern rows in very little time.
Note to self: If I’m going to keep making cowls, I really need to get some 16” fixed circulars. I’m using Magic Loop on this, which is fine, but it’d go even faster with a short enough cable and no magic loop.
Casting on 3/9/13 using the COWYAK method since I don’t know which CO and BO I want to use.
I always need a reminder when it comes to yarnovers. This is a great video and there’s a free download for reference, too.
