Re-working the pattern for bulky yarn (that was labeled a “4,” but it’s clearly heavier than even an aran). Knitting these because DIL lost a mitten, and that yarn has been discontinued…this is the perfect color and softness, so new mittens (and maybe a hat or scarf) are on my needles for Christmas!!!

Notes:
Size 6 needles
C/o 28, 2x2 for 24 rounds
K 1 round, inc 2 evenly (30)
On round three, start thumb increases (thumb on 12, slip 11 to waste yarn)
Purl row on round 9, start rib on round 11 for 5 rounds.
Bind off.
Thumb - pick up 11 + 2 or 3, dec to 12 on round 2. Continue to round 13. K2tog around for rnd 14, and close.
Flap - 5 rnds rib on palm side, continue in st st to round 18.
Decreases 5, k one round. Dec 6, every other row, until 6 remain. Close.
