Hooray for knit alongs! I bought this pattern a few days ago and was toying with waiting until the next CA shop update, but this KAL just popped up so I’m going to use my Caligula yarns.
The bold contrasting lines in the pattern remind me of Art Deco pieces or Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass, so I’m very jazzed (pun completely intended) to start. I tend to work several projects simultaneously so I’m starting this tonight so I can make the July deadline. Exciting!
5/25: I finished the first chart and took it off the needles to test for color bleeding, based on Rachael/Sarcazm’s advice. Washed the swatch in 1.5 cups of water with 2 T. white vinegar. No bleeding! It dried out by the end of the day so I can start knitting again!
6/15: Second chart completed, with plans to repeat once before starting the border. I practiced the border on my snowman ornament and definitely think I should size up a needle so the bind off isn’t too tight.
6/21: 3.5 more pattern repeats before the border. I switched from my Clover bamboo fixed circular to a Karbonz interchangeable and it is much easier to move the yarn on the needles.
6/26: 1.5 pattern repeats left before the border, and I joined my second skein of the MC. CC still has a lot left to work with. Both MC skeins are pretty evenly matched.
7/1: Blocking tonight. I ended up doing about 12 border rows. I joined the second skein of CC early on in the border. Extra yarn is a good thing!
