Used german short rows which leave no hole at all, very straight forward instructions here http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/german-short-row-...

Main body variegated used 26grams, total 60grams including flowers - aprox 15grams peach in total

Reduced earflaps to 5stitches in pattern, started icord then reduced to 4stitches after a few rows, did cords so it can be tied on but still look cool hanging loose. Added a large flower to the side and small flowers on the ends of the icords.

Intended this for my 3.5yr old daughter who fits the head circumference suggestions, it fits, but looks a little on the small side, I actually prefer the fit on my 1yr old, its a bit big on her, but has really good head coverage - will fit her perfectly next winter
