A test for Cassy. The first time I’ve made something like this in Tunisian lace (Aiobhe’s lace is quite different). Worked entirely from written instructions, but I believe Cassy will add charts to the final pattern.

The colour is a sort of unnatural pistachio. Mine eyes were deceiv’d when I chose it over the Internet. I thought it would be something paler, the green version of my firozi. The different shades are thanks to the odd weather outside. I’d say the top photo shows the colour best. You can compare with my The Hole on the Green, as it is the same yarn.

Tips to work this pattern: Keep a close count of your stitches on every row. That will be your only lifesaver. I only did that on the way down and have a sneaking feeling the two sides might not be equal.

I chose to work the sl st knit top border, but be warned that it resembles stockinette so much that it curls in exactly the same way, no matter how you block it. You might prefer to do a straight rib, or a garter or moss stitch one if you insist on a knit border. On the other hand, Cassy gives you the option of doing a Tunisian or crochet border. I cannot comment on those, but the plain crochet one wouldn’t curl, I imagine.

The bottom edging in simple crochet is an added touch, but again you could choose to omit it altogether for a classic sideways worked plainer shawl. And that would be ideal if you worked with a yarn with long or gradual colour changes.
