Notes

I am not using the original pattern. I am using Maryfairy’s version. However, while Mary used the JAYG method “granny” style, I’ve just never been a fan. I’m using the JAYG method of every stitch. The kind that is used in Heidibear’s African flower critters. It was either that, or SS on back after all motifs are made, which I might do with the white for subtle dimension purposes for the flower petals.

This baby is due in April. I’ll definitely be finished with it long before then. Emily’s mom tells me that Em loves bright, bold colors. And that’s easy enough to do from my Stylecraft stash bin!

All flowers made except for one Turquoise, I’m still waiting on that to come in from WoolWarehouse. Meanwhile, I’ll work on whites and joining the rest, now that I have my color layout done. I can also finish up Wes and Karen’s baby’s blanket, that one should take about a solid weekend, not much more.

Half-Hexagon

Ch 4, ss in first stitch to close ring

R1: Ch-3. 2DC cluster into ring. Ch-2, 2DC Cluster. Ch-2, 2DC Cluster. Ch-3, turn. (3 2DC clusters, 2 ch-2 spaces).

R2: DC into base, 3DC into ch-2 space. Ch2, 2DC into same ch-2 space. 2DC into next ch-2 space. Ch-2. 3DC into same ch-space, 2DC into third chain of ch-3.

There should be exactly 6 stitches per side, including the corners (ch-2 spaces is the first and last of each 6-stitch side).

Pictures uploaded, but am still finishing up the edges, the half-hexagons, I have about six left, most ends are already woven in, then I just have to decide on what edge or border I’m going to put on each end. The sides I’ll pretty much leave alone, probably.

I’m “finished”, but I feel like it looks unfinished. I’m packing this away for a while, then will pull it back out and see if I want to add a little something as a border on each end. I feel like I will, so I’ll look through Edie Eckman’s border books … and I have her new one coming in a couple of weeks I think.

I came back and added 1 row of sc from the WS, front loops only (giving one more horizontal ridge on the front), then Border #4 from Edie Eckman’s new border book, Every Which Way Crochet Borders. This is just on the long ends, not the sides, of this blanket. Weave in the ends remaining from this addition, and the blanket is ready to wash and deliver this week.

The baby shower was today! Lil Mama was caught by surprise, and she’s the type that understands and treasures a hand-made gift. Her baby shower was decorated with … giant, boldly colored flowers! I think this baby blanket was inspired, I had no idea, and Emily says the colors match the nursery perfectly.

Also, it seems that of all the things I’ve posted through Instagram/Facebook, this one is a “fan favorite”!

Grateful to Maryfairy’s amazing project page, where I found her wonderful version of this pattern. I’ll likely be stalking that page again soon, my nephew’s first baby is due this summer ….
