Notes

Hubby wants this hat with no ribbing, but rather reversible (like A Very Warm Hat) with a purl round separating the hats (for better folding, a la Wurm’s brim, but the entire hat double thick, not just the brim).

Using this method for Traveling Jogless Stripes
and no increases, like Librashell's adaptation
and will give the SYTK a try for the ssk decreases.

20 Dec
Oops, forgot to check gauge and it is a bit big. Will start over with smaller needles.

21 Dec
US6 works better - now getting 10sts/13rows per 2”.

22 Dec
Starting over again. I’m really unhappy with the jogless stripes - I can see it twisting around the hat! I think I pull the inside too tight or don’t wrap them right? I’m not sure. Maybe cutting the yarn instead of carrying it will help.

23 Dec
No. It does not help. So starting over again. No matter what I do, the traveling jogless stripe gives me a spiral up the hat. Yuck! If I’m going to have such an obvious join, I’ll make it a vertical one.

24 Dec
Okay, I’m ont 100% thrilled with the ridge created but the jogs (or lack thereof) look good and the ridge is at least vertical instead of spiral so it looks world’s better. I think this version of the hat will actually be completed!

25 Dec
Stripy hat done! I had to go back and tighten up the decreases when I sewed in ends (using extra yarn). Hopefully, I won’t have to do that on the second one since I won’t be able to! Fingers crossed as I remove the provisional CO and start hat number two!

28 Dec
Done! I’m kind of mixed on this pattern - it results in such a great looking hat but the decreases have to be pulled so tight to prevent gapping that the last bit of the hat ends up being kind of a stressful knit. Still, it is a pretty hat and the hubby loves it!

30 Dec
All blocked! Blocking made the crown much crisper, softened the yarn and loosened the fit just a tiny bit. The hubby loves it - he’s wearing it around the house right now!
