Notes

Update: I have worn this sweater a lot since finishing it. Love it!

Mods

  • most significant is the garter sleeve cuffs, to match the garter hem and neckline
  • used a smaller needle size (3.25 mm) due to lighter weight yarn
  • German short rows for yoke
  • 8 more rows for yoke before splitting off sleeves, due to my different row gauge
  • dropped down to 3.0 mm after sleeve split-off when I added the CC so the fabric wasn’t too loose with the lighter yarn, which necessitated adding a few stitches (vertical bust darts) to the front. Ended up with 130 for the front and 120 for the back, instead of 118 for each.
  • increased every 6th row once I got to the 3-row stripes. Ended up with 144 for back and 152 for front- 296 total.
  • for the short row gray wedge at the bottom, the pattern was still in flux, so I ended up with 12 repeats of rows 3 & 4 for the CC, and 12 for the MC.
  • note - did stretchy bind-off every 3rd stitch for hem and cuffs.
  • decreased more for sleeves and did garter cuff (see notes). The pattern was amended after I knit mine.

Sleeves

  • 76 on waste yarn.
  • pick up 3 each side of center marker plus 1 gap stitch each side and knit pick up row with 3.25 mm. 84 stitches
  • knit 1 row and k stitches 4/5 together each side - 82 stitches
  • row 3 switch to 3.0 mm needles
  • decrease on 27, then every 10th until 54 stitches then every 6th row twice, ending with last decrease in green. 16 green stripes, 50 stitches. On first knit row of CC decrease every 8th stitch then last 2 tog to end with 44. Purl 1round, knit 1 round 3 times. Bind off.

Yarn:
My NBK yarn is actually light fingering, 428 yards to 100 grams, except for 1 skein which is the newer base - 400 yards to 100 grams. Starting with that one.
- 21 grams left after body from second skein. 74 grams of Malachite left from the 3rd skein, after sleeves.
Used 110 grams of Slate.

Blocking:
See the bottom picture for photographic evidence of the miracle of blocking. Unblocked sleeve on left, compared to blocked body on the right.

I love love love the colour of this green yarn. I was saving it for the right project, and this is it, although after knitting with this, I am surprised at how variegated this turned out to be. I am happy I picked this striped project.

Testing thread here

Gauge:
Stockinette stitch: 24 st and 28 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles, after
blocking.
