I made a Fox hoodie for my granddaughter here, and promised my daughter this cowl.

The pattern calls for a size 15 needle (10 mm), but I only had a 9 mm (size 13) so I’m using this. The yarn calls for 9 mm, and the gauge seems to be accurate.

Mods:

• move BOR to back of neck (why are we changing colours at the front?)

• did a much shorter neck. 25 rows after the seed stitch is huge! As this will not go over my daughter’s shoulders, and will just bunch up at her neck, I knit 14 rounds of orange after the black stripe instead of 20, then followed the pattern.

• kitchener the top of the hood (instead of binding off and seaming - alternative would have been to do a 3 needle BO)

• add shaping to the back of the hood - increase 2 stitches either side of center every other round 4 times

• made ears (did adult size) a bit pointier by turning tip of ear with 3 single crochet stitches instead of one. Use slanting decreases inward each time rather than using K2tog/p2 tog on both sides.

• I found the crochet edging pulled it in a lot, especially the second row, so I ripped back and just did one row of crochet trim

• the directions regarding folding the seed stitch band over were unclear - some people seem to have folded the band in half, and others folded the entire 7-stitch plus crochet trim back. I did the latter, and tacked it around for 1/2 the hood, as just tacking at the top didn’t hold it.

• no buttons. Why?
