Next time, don’t use Turn a Square - do even decreases not the double decreases from TAS. Also, consider rib at the bottom instead of the bottom chart, then right into the deer!

This is my second hat using this chart here. First one is here. The original plan was to do the double-sided hat, but even with a striped “family-friendly” side, that is still 3 layers of yarn. Too hot, so we’ll live with the naughty version only.

Trying a smaller needle for this hat, and more stitches.

• cast on 104 instead of 96 for the first 8-stitch border pattern.
• added a stitch to make it 105, so there is an extra stitch on either side of the deer and an extra trunk stitch to make the pattern a 35-stitch repeat.
• gave the bottom deer 2-stitch ears instead of antlers.
• last row of the pattern, knit each double tree stitch together - 102 stitches.

After the pattern, double round of orange, double round of brown, orange round, then decrease 6 stitches on second orange round - 96 stitches.
- then follow Turn a Square and place 4 markers, and decrease 8 every second round, on the second round of each stripe until 8 left between markers.

Brim: unwound provisional cast-on and took out first row of orange. Joined brown, did a purl row, switched to smaller needles (or same size but decrease a few stitches) and knit 9 rows, then cast-off and tack to a purl bump from the inside.
