I sent my DIL 9 pictures of varying beanies, as she expressed a desire for a gray and lilac hat, with gray as MC, and we had already narrowed the style down to a beanie, not a slouchy version. She picked this standard nordic snowflake.

• cast on 96. 2x2 rib in 3.75 mm needle for less than 2 inches. Change to 4.5 mm needle, knit 1 round MC.
• added the bottom pattern rows from Pompomhat - (needed to increase 1 stitch to 97 for that pattern), then decreases back to 96 for snowflake pattern
• knit to nearly 6 inches then decreases. 25 rows after rib to start of decrease.

The pattern is DK, but uses 4.0 mm needles and 96 stitches for the pattern, which is what I would use for worsted.
