I am glad I added the spikes to the hedgehogs, although it was a huge PITA, and took 3 evenings. The yarn I used for the hedgehogs isn’t superwash so I’m sure the spikes will felt with repeated washings. At least I won’t worry about the baby pulling out a strand. After hooking the spike pieces around a body strand, and square knotting, the pieces still loosened.

I have knit a version of the porcupine blanket (with giraffes here) but DD wanted the hedgehog version, which is in an old knitting magazine I can’t find. The animals look the same to me. Will find a mushroom chart.

Cast on 125 stitches for seed stitch bottom. 8 rows then increase 10 to 135. Run a ball of yarn up each side for the 8 stitch borders.

NEXT TIME - CAST ON FEWER STITCHES. This blanket is wide. Also consider doing loop stitch instead of hooking the hair on after. here Also, do 5 stripes instead of 3 and the same increase for the thin stripes, so a fourth panel isn’t necessary.

Recipe from blanket: border, 32 rows (did 26 here plus 8 for grass), 26 porcupine, 30 rows (did 24 here plus 8 for grass), 26 porcupine, 28 rows (did 30 here plus 8 grass), 26 porcupine, 28 rows then top border (8 rows) = 226 rows including border. May be too square (it was). Added another panel and set of stripes.

Mushrooms: - I looked at various projects and charts with mushrooms and combined the basic elements for my own particular design. Big mushroom - 12 stitches wide and 14 high. Small mushrooms (from this free pattern here) are 8 stitches wide and 11 high.
