Notes

I used the garter stitch sidestream variant, but didn’t double the yarn or do the color changes in the Sunrise pattern. I also just did ribbing for the ankle rather than the pattern stitch.

Used my favorite garter toe. All other toes feel fussy to knit….

Just before I started the heel, I made a center-pull skein of the rest of the 50 g half of the skein and then used the center end to make the heel before switching back to the “main” yarn for the ankle. I have made toe-up socks before with gradient colors like this and been unhappy with the abruptness of the ankle join.

I switched to a size 2 needle to as the sock climbed my ankle (about 5.5 inches above the end of the reinforced heel).

The Noro is a sticky yarn for a center-pull skein, so it wasn’t perfect, but it worked well enough and I’m happy with the look of the sock. I’m even happier with the second sock, which has a less abrupt color change for the heel (using scrap yarn left over from the sock cuff…).
