Notes

Following the chart, and using yarnovers as the pattern is written.

Edging: Added a row of k2tog, yo - with dark blue beads at every other k2tog, and then one more knit row before starting edging.
Did border #4 (modified) from ‘Gossamer Webs’
On edging chart - stars are place bead, upside-down A’s are to slip stitch with yarn in front, and slanted X’s are to k2tog with one stitch from the body of the shawl. O’s are yarnovers, / is k2tog, and the top symbol is k3tog. I placed a large size 4 bead in the center of the diamonds, and pale blue beads on the zig zag closest to the shawl, and clear silver lined size 6 beads on the zig zags at the very edge.

Beads Used:

  • Using size 4 silver lined clear crystal beads for the higher magnitude stars - according to this list.
  • Using size 6 silver lined crystal beads for the other constellation stars.
  • Using size 6 sliver lined orange/red beads for the red giants - Betelgeuse in Orion, Aldebaran in Taurus, Pollux in Gemini (an orange giant), Arcturus in Bootes.
  • Using size 6 silver lined light blue beads for non-constellation ‘extra’ stars that I placed according to a star chart - I eyeballed where there were other stars not charted and added those in, with no paired yarnovers.
  • Dark blue size 6 beads in edging.

Finished Measurements:
Before blocking : 42 inches across
After blocking: 58 inches across!

Used approximately ?? yards.

Timeline:
2/11/13 - ordered yarn and beads!
2/14 - got my yarn and beads! yay!
2/15 - swatching. US 4 needles giving me 8 rows to inch, US 5 needles giving me 7 rows to the inch - I’ll go with the 5s. (I like the drape of the fabric better too)
2/15…later - casted on. stopped on row 10.
2/16 - stopped on row 33.
2/19 - stopped on row 37.
2/20- stopped on row 57.
2/21 - stopped on row 65.
2/22 - stopped on row 79 chart E2.
2/23 - stopped on row 88.
2/24- row 92.
2/25 - stopped in middle of last increase row.
2/27 - stopped on row 101.
2/28 - joined second ball of yarn on row 103. stopped on row 107.
3/1 - stopped on row 114.
3/2 - row 121.
3/3 - row 126.
3/4 - row 137.
3/5 - row 138.
3/6 - joined third skein in the middle of row 140. stopped on row 144.
3/7 - stopped ready to do row 152 F2 chart.
3/8 - finished F charts. Did a row of K2tog, yo. Second row, placed beads at every K2tog.
3/9 - didn’t do 2 plain knit rows before doing my k2tog, yo row, and I don’t like how close my stars are to the edge, so I frogged back to before that row so I can do some plain knit rows first. Also, I think I might not have enough yarn to do a fancy edging. O.o
Decided on Border #4 from ‘Gossamer Webs’. I’ll add beads to it (of course!)
Ordered another skein of yarn, because I am pretty sure I’m going to run out.
3/25/13 - plugging away on the border - only have one and a half wedges to go!!
3/28 - done with border - I’ll block it tomorrow!!
3/29 - blocking!
