I’m using some fine-ish wool (ebay) which I suspect is about 2 or 3ply (@ 20 wpi), in a dusky rose. I don’t think this will be a shawl for me but it’s part of the 10 shawls in 2010 challenge, and it will be an example of this pattern for the course in July.
I’m using a lace pattern from the absoultely fabulous Heirloom Knitting for the bit of the shawl after the final increase; I knit 2 rows normally, increased the needle size to 5.5 (which makes the work quite open, I hope, when blocked), and then started the leaves pattern a couple of rows after that. It’s a 12 stitch repeat, so I’ve put markers in at the start of each repeat (since the shawl continues to grow as you go, that’s important for keeping the repeats in the same place). I’m leaving a 5 stitch garter border on both sides.

I’ve moved from the pattern above through to the old staple of Old Shale, and I think the two work together really well. I’m not sure how long I will make this before I start knitting on an edge. I know I have a tendency to make things too short (impatient? me?) so will try to hang on….

As the picture shows, I’m using a small, simple pattern for the border, from an old book - it’s easy to remember (a must when you have to do it this many times!) but still looks nice. If I’d thought about it, I would have made it a bit longer - added a few more stitches to the shawl side each row - but it’ll be fine.
Really.
Would I lie?

I’ve just dug this out of the closet and wrapped up in it because it’s COLD here - the shawl is just right!
