Notes

Description of yarn says 12 wpi … I get 14 wpi, so treating it as fingering and knitting accordingly. If the socks seem as if they’ll be too large, I can always rip out and go down a size (I’d rather do that than have sock fabric that’s too loosely knitted)

Jan. 15, 2011 update: Knitting up nicely on my usual 2mm needles and, sizewise, so far the socks appear to be fitting exactly the same way as any made with a yarn listed as fingering … Stärke 6 is really just a more loosely twisted version of Crazy Zauberball rather than an actual thicker yarn. Because it’s looser and thus, a bit fluffier, I can see treating it as sport weight if making a scarf, sweater, etc., but if I’d used bigger needles and made another pair of gansey socks from it as I’d originally planned, they’d be lacy and worn out in no time … better to knit small and tight with this stuff if it’s to go on the feet. So onwards and upwards with this pattern, which I’m jazzing up a bit by decorating the upper side with “wrought iron panel II” from volume three of the Walker Treasuries.
