Notes

So lots of other people have put together magnitude charts (the full magnitude chart by RiaDee being available as a photo on the project page; a detailed list of all stars with their constellations, names, magnitudes, and positions in the charts being provided by psychedout), but I wasn’t readily able to lay my hands on the number of each size of bead required if you’re separating out by magnitude. So here one is:

Magnitude 0: 9
Magnitude 1: 14
Magnitude 2: 63
Magnitude 3: 142
Magnitude 4: 138
Magnitude 5: 7

This adds up to 373 not 370; that’s because psychedout’s list contains Orion’s Sword, which isn’t charted. I’ve created a CSV file of psychedout's list that you can open with any spreadsheet program, if you’d like to sort it (e.g. by position) as you go along. I’ve also corrected a few typos, identified while I was working on my other Celestarium #bridesinspace.

As of August 12th I’ve just ordered yarn, so I’m waiting on that and on buying beads before I can cast on…

Cast on!

… and actually started making progress. It is very nice having my notes from #2 instead of having to Make Decisions.

Spliced in colour #2, having decided to do so at 55-row intervals for equal diameters of each. I’m not getting the runs from my stitch markers in the finer yarn (and the slightly looser tension); I did do a much tidier job of the cast-on, with which I am very pleased. Hopefully the slightly denser fabric in the middle (from the 2.5mm DPNs) will block out well…

The looser fabric overall means I’m not bothering with double-YOs for the largest-diameter beads. So far so swimmingly.

Spliced in Archangel at the end of Abril, F6/112 (in real money rather than chart money). Kept going to the very end of Abril rather than splicing as intended at the beginning of 111 (real money) because I… was running low on yarn, fingers crossed I make it to the end of the charts before running out of Archangel…

19-09-2016

Yeah, no, I ran out of Archangel and then stalled out massively. HOWEVER, I have just done the maths and am ripping back out; for future reference, self:

~20k stitches from one of the balls of yarn

E3/75 - colour #1 - 12024 stitches
F4/129 - #2 - 36000
F8/155 - #3 - 51264

… except I actually want to do a more gradual transition, so have a think about that, self.
