Making these for the SK March/April 2014 Do-Si-Do KAL and my partner is Ruatha. It’s so much better to visit important places like this with a friend or two…
I’ve had this pattern on my short list for some time now and want to get them done for Lent. I was moved by the story that accompanies the pattern.
Yom HaZikaron laShoah ve-laG’vurah, “Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day” also known as Yom HaShoah, is observed in Israel on Nisan 27, which is April 8-9, 2013.
This year (2014) Yom HaShoah is Monday, April 28.
I ordered this yarn specifically for this project. The color itself is hopeful, but the darker tones on the foot give way to lighter tones toward the cuff as a reminder of overcoming the pain and of the souls reaching heavenward out of suffering.
- Toe Up, two short 2 mm circular needles
- karendidit’s Gusset Toe to 72 sts
- Shifted one st at each end of sole needle to instep needle before beginning to work the chart
- On right sock I started the star motif on Round 7 as per chart. This put the star quite close to the toe box, and into the darker colors. That’s OK, but it’s even harder to see. I decided I would begin the star motif further along on the left sock and so worked 4 full repeats of the link motif before beginning the star. I like the fraternal quality that this provides.
- 6-Stitch (each end of needle) Mini-Flap & Gusset Short Row Heel
- Above the heel, I shifted to 2.25 mm needles and ultimately to 2.5 mm needles
- 1.25” of ribbing
- Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off
The pattern is not difficult but the star motif does require some careful attention to the chart, as does the area just below the cuff ribbing.
