Notes

Additional reasons to love this design: It hugs the neck to keep you warm, and the alternating lace and stockinette sections allow the cowl to undulate in lovely folds, framing the face.

Almost got 3 cowls out of one ball of yarn, but not quite. I had to buy another ball just for the top 2 inches of this one. Formerly, the yarn was called “Shawl in a Ball” because it was wound into a ball. However, the exact same yarn is now called “Shawl in a Cake”. As you can see, the colors all show now, so you know exactly how much of each shade your cake contains before you buy it. This is a much improved marketing technique on the part of Lion Brand.

Knitting this cute cowl for the 4th time. I’d say that this yarn is somewhere between sport and DK weight. It says weight “4” on the yarn label. I think that’s way off, and if you use the size 8 US needle suggested on the yarn label, the fabric would look very lacy. I followed the instructions for the worsted weight cowl (cast on 110 sts). This will be for a child, so I didn’t want it to be too large.

I cast on 110 sts and ended with 70 sts (5 sections - K13, K2tog or 14 x 5 = 70 sts). I decreased in only 3 of the stockinette sections, and I had 4 lace sections.

I used this provisional cast-on (crochet hook method).

I really love this yarn, but not the color combinations. Peach and red-violet just don’t go together, in my opinion. Therefore, I separate the colors and use them for different cowls. The cotton and Acrylic blend is very soft and I think you could actually throw items knitted from this yarn into a washer and dryer. However, I imagine there would be some shrinkage due to the cotton.
