Notes

I made this cowl for my niece and her Dad wanted one for himself. So this one is for my brother-in-law. Charcoal color was requested. I did not do the picot edging because I think it looks feminine. Instead I just did all purl stitches on those rounds.

I cast on 110 sts using a size 8 US needle and this provisional cast-on. Then I switched to the size 7 US which I used for the remainder of the cowl.

This is a fantastic pattern/design as is evident from the thousands of Ravelry members who’ve already knitted the fingering weight version. This new version of the pattern is for worsted and DK weights. Super simple and quick project. It’s very warm and cozy knitted up in this yarn. This is my 6th Willow Cowl, and it won’t be the last. Everyone who sees it wants one. I held 2 yarns together throughout.

I did all the stockinette sections with decreases (except for the top section) because I wanted it to be as close to the neck as possible but still be able to pull over the head. I did 4 lace sections. I tacked down the live stitches (top/last round) with sewing thread which worked well and looks neat. (Run the yarn through the live sts before tacking down with sewing thread.) I started out with 110 sts and ended with 70 sts.

Although the lace yarn came from China, the label says that 48% of the fiber comes from Africa. The yarn label also says “Bug Free.” That made me laugh. Let’s hope so! Fiber seems to be unknown, although it says 52% long hair. I assume that means mohair (goat). The rest is most likely wool. The label also says that it’s water resistant with only 10% absorption. I linked the yarn to another similar Celine Lin Mohair, even though the one I used has a different label and different percentage of fibers. Here’s a link to the one I bought on Amazon which is not yet in the Ravelry yarn database.
