Made for Blu - Libby’s King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. He is the cutest thing in the universe.

Used Darling Darby pattern but changed it to start at the tail and knit up, ending with the turtleneck. I wanted the stitches to be facing that direction for the “dripping” effect (the multicolor sts V as if dripping down into the dark teal color). (should one choose to do the same, the sweater body needs to be knit forward first to make sure #4 measurement is met, the number of extra rows noted, then body frogged and knit again backward. Those extra rows need to go before the decreases, and so cannot be measured properly when knit from the bottom up.)

The sunrise cowl was the inspiration for the dripping colorwork, but I didn’t use the actual pattern.

Used lots of jacquard ladders because of the huge spaces in the colorwork and also so that dog paws wouldn’t snag long strands.

The turtleneck layers are bound together with the bind-off, and the top has a section of slipped k sts that will keep it from getting stretched out over time, techniques I learned from purlZknitting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jImDvsC-yqc

I wanted the bind-off and some ribbing of the bottom layer to show, so I used purlZknitting’s ideas from the same video but altered it a bit: made a p row about 5 rows up in the ribbing. Then, once the neck was long enough, I knit the two layers together --
for p columns, pulling the live st through the 5th row purl bump of same column, leaving live st on the R needle & for k columns, pulling the 5th purl bump through the live st from the same column, leaving the p bump on the R needle as the new live st; then binding-off in opposite ribbing pattern from the outside.

Made a little hood to match:
