January 20, 2017 Linking this to the PussyHat Project so it can be counted there, but I wanted to add a few features from other patterns as well. I started with the instructions for the Ear Flap Pussy Hat, but following Zuri Scrivens’s instructions, the hat was coming out way too small. I did get some good practice in for making short-rows, but I wanted it to fit an adult, so I went back to the designer’s source, the Garter Ear Flap Hat by Purl Soho. Before frogging my too-small hat, I checked my guage and realized that the Adult Small size would work for me.

Currently, I’ve made my earflaps and I’m just about done with the ribbing section. I plan to add a large cable in the middle, like on the Cabled Cat Ears Hat and the ear-defining side cables from Erica Jackofsky (Fiddle Knits)’s Josie before using a kitchener stitch to graft it closed. I’m not using a bulky yarn, so it’s going a little slower. I had wanted to make about three of them for tomorrow’s demonstration. I even have project names for the other two that I already picked out, also based on songs that use the word “pussy.” But at this rate, I’ll be happy if I finish two. Maybe I’ll bring some yarn to work on a third one while I’m there!

March 20, 2017 Mom and Dad finally uploaded a bunch of the photos from their phones onto the computer this weekend, which means yesterday, I finally got a hold of pictures from The Women’s March on Washington, the Los Angeles edition.

One of the many unexpected delights of attending The March was being able to walk through the streets of Downtown L.A. on a nice day, and take in and appreciate the sights without having to worry about traffic. Downtown really has some wonderful architecture which thankfully made it into the background of the pictures we took and which I tried to keep when I cropped the photos. In case anyone’s wondering about the carnation, someone was walking around handing out carnations near where I was standing when I first arrived at the march, so I stuck mine in my hat. There were so many wonderful things about that day that I could go on an on about but for these project notes, I’m limiting myself to only these few comments on what’s in the photos.

I may still try and get some photos of just the hat. I do also still want to “block” it, at least so I can get those ear flaps to stop curling upwards so much. Dad joked that I had sherpa look going on.

Photos are not “mature” but text is, so I marked this project as “mature content” just to be “safe.” Whatever the fuck that means these days.
