Notes

I initially thought that this would be my vacation knitting on our trip to Santa Fe. Instead, I decided I would like to wear this is Santa Fe. So I need to get started….

Journal

2015-05-01: Cast on and begin knitting triangle.

2015-05-03: Sheesh. Sometimes I just can’t count! I was placing count markers in groups of 20, but my brain was counting them as 10s and I just kept knitting. Had to rip back 20 rows or so. But now I’m at 167 stitches and the triangle is complete. Knit one more repeat of round 1. Join in the round. Complete 10 stockinette rounds.

2015-05-04: Complete 40th round.

2015-05-05: Complete 80th round.

2015-05-06: Complete another 10 rounds; 90 rounds complete.

2015-05-07: 110 rounds complete.

2015-05-08: 130 rounds complete. I have count issues.

2015-05-12: 140 rounds complete.

2015-05-13: 150 rounds complete.

2015-05-14: 170 rounds complete.

2015-05-15: 190 rounds complete

2015-05-20: 200 rounds complete.

2015-05-22: 220 rounds complete.

2015-05-25: 230 rounds complete.

2015-05-27: 240 rounds complete. I’m close enough to my netting start numbers to start netting.

2015-05-29: Complete 2 repeats netting pattern (8 rounds, 4 holes).

2015-05-30: Complete 2 more repeats of netting pattern. 256 rounds complete.

2015-05-31: 4 more repeats of netting complete; 272 rounds complete.

2015-06-01: 4 repeats of netting complete; 288 rounds complete. I’m at 24 “holes”, so I’m going to stop my netting here even though I could probably get 2 more repeats.<p> Knit one one more round (466 stitches). Bind off using k2tog tbl bind off on a US 7 needle; soak & block; its drying now…

2015-06-02: Tried it on and without heels, its dragging on the ground. Drat!! I’m going to have to rip out about 10 holes worth of netting.

2015-06-03: Ripping back…. I decided to rip back so I have the number of holes in the pattern -- 17. I’m binding off again using k2tog tbl bindoff; 28.7 grams removed from final product. Ends woven in. Waiting for pictures…

Summary

  • Starting weight: 441 grams; ending weight 14.7 grams.

  • After triangle: 415.6 grams. maybe my scale is different than GPYs.

  • Stockinette stitche gauge, pre-block: 24 1/2 / 4”. This is a larger gauge than I had for Winter Traveler which was 28 / 4”.

  • I’m going to start my netting section between 103.9 - 110.75 grams.

  • Progress Stats - Stockinette:
    -40 rounds: 105+1+105+1=212 stitches; 381.6 grams remain
    -80 rounds: 125+1+125+1=252 stitches; 340.6 grams remain
    -90 rounds: 130+1+130+1=262; 330.5 grams
    -100 rounds: 135+1+135+1=272; 320.2 grams
    -110 rounds: 140+1+140+1=282; 308.7 grams
-120 rounds: 144+1+144+1=290; 296.6 grams remain. I’m off by 2 stitches here. Don’t know why
    -130 rounds: 151+1+151+1=304; 283.6 grams;
    -140 rounds: 156+1+156+1=314; 269.7 grams.
    -150 rounds: 161+1+161+1=324; 255.5 grams.
    -160 rounds: 166+1+166+1=334; 241.9 grams.
    -170 rounds: 171+1+171+1=344; 227.6 grams.
-180 rounds: 178+1+178+1=358; 212.9 grams. Off again, who knows why, at least I’m keeping my sides consistent.
    -190 rounds: 183+1+183+1=368; 197.0 grams
    -200 rounds: 188+1+188+1=378; 184.1 grams
    -210 rounds: 193+1+193+1=388; 166.2 grams
    -220 rounds: 198+1+198+1=398; 149.4 grams
    -230 rounds: 203+1+203_1=408; 132.1 grams
    -240 rounds: 208+1+208+1=416; 114.5 grams

  • Progress stats (netting). Stitch count doesn’t really matter now:
-249 rounds: 97.2 grams remain; 17.3 grams used, approximately 8.65 gr per pattern repeat. Looks like I might be able to get 10 more repeats + bind off.
-257 rounds: 82.0 grams remain; 15.2 grams used. Hmmm…. 8 rounds, last time I actually calculated for 9, next one will be 7 just to get me back on track.
-264 rounds: 68.4 grams remain; 7 rounds so I’m back on track with the pattern.
-272 rounds: 53.2 grams remain; 15.2 grams used.
-280 rounds: 36.0 grams remain; 17.2 grams used (9 rounds actually).
-288 rounds: 19.4 grams remain; 16.6 grams used (7 rounds actually)

  • yarn returned to unused after ripping out: ?? Grams.

  • if you join in the round per the patterns directions, you will be working from the wrong side of the garter. I liked the front of the garter better, so I knit one more repeat of round 1. I then joined to work in the round.

  • blocked gauge: 20.5 stitches / 4”; 34 rows / 4”.

Name Inspiration

Yes, I know the song is San Jose and not Santa Fe. Afterall, I live in San Jose. However my plan is to have this complete for an upcoming trip to Santa Fe, hence the play on the name.
