Rapunzel, or, perhaps, Third Time’s The Charm!
Last summer this amazing young lady sent me a beautiful parcel full of exquisite yarns inspired by a card of Rapunzel my children had chosen for her. After a few months of casting on various promising patterns which would do justice to the silk and baby camel yarn I finally turned, for the third time, to dear Dani Sunshine’s Vintage Bouquet. I then embarked on a fascinating voyage into the origins of the Rapunzel fairytale thanks to the author Kate Forsyth’s intriguing novel ‘Bitter Greens’ which brought me, via late sixteenth-century Venice, full circle to the court of Louis XIV - late seventeenth-century French aesthetics being my field of research.
In the Italian first version of this fairytale Rapunzel has red hair so Héloïse seemed the obvious model in this case.
So much pleasure has been gained from this gift. Such is the magic of life!
My other Vintage Bouquets are here and here.
