11/15/2014: Washed and blocked measures 68” square. Unblocked measured 61” square. The bottom blanket photo is unblocked - it is evident that a bath and blocking today improved the blanket’s appearance substantially. Whew, lots and lots of knitting. Last round was 1004 stitches.
10/24/2014: Now working with two 60” size 7 circs at 80% finished and 708 stitches around. I believe it to be about 54” square at the moment.
10/13/2014: I started on 40” size 7 Addi Turbo Rockets circular needles and I’m already running out of room (I’m at 476 stitches). Will add in a 60” circ tomorrow.
Granddaughter Emma saw this photo of a finished Playful Stripes project done by MeridithKnits, (she is the designer of the pattern as well) and wanted a blanket done in similar colors. I already had a bunch of Cascade Eco Wool and Eco+ in my stash so wanted to use it.
I didn’t realize that this pattern doesn’t produce a full square until I viewed other Ravelers’ projects such as this one. But I like the stockinette stripes next to the garter stitch stripes so kept that as per the pattern. My modification was to begin at the center by casting on 6, increasing to 12, then dividing with markers to create 4 quarters, rather than casting on for the outside edge and decreasing as the pattern instructs. I’m increasing 8 sts every other row. For the border, I added six rows of a textured pattern and then finished with 18 or 20 garter stitch rows and an attached I-cord bind off.
