Knitting with 1 cashmere strand and 4 (now 2, read below) merino strands.
10/4 - Used my favorite tubular cast on and rearranged the stitches for 2x2 ribbing. I’m hoping to have this done by Christmas, but that’s a HUGE ask of myself. I didn’t do a gauge swatch, instead I’m going with straight instincts these yarns will work with this pattern. I went against using mohair because I didn’t want to use mohair for a fisherman-like sweater. I’ve also changed the XO-like cable to a regular cable.
10/27 - I’m shocked how quickly I’m knitting this since it’s now my weekend only project. I’m almost at 12” long for the front. Since I’m not using mohair, my sweater is thicker than what it’s supposed to be, which is fine because I wasn’t sold on it’s sheerness. My hands are starting to hate honeycombs between this project and a different one, but I must power through. I wish I modified the purl gaps to be smaller and maybe a plait cable instead of a 6-stitch cable.
11/23 - I’m done with the armhole decreases and on the home stretch for the back piece. I’m omitting the keyhole because I don’t like it. I wish I changed the XO-like cable to a braid and used less of a gap on either side, but it’s too late for that.
11/30 - Done with the back! Since I left out the keyhole, I bound off both sides at the same time.
2/25/2015 - I’ve frogged the whole thing because I miscalculated the amount of yarn I needed. -gasp-
I read through some of the other projects before I started this last year and collectively found this sweater is on the short side. So I decided I was going to add at least 2-3” to mine along with all the other changes. I got to about halfway up the front armholes when I noticed I wasn’t going to have enough merino yarn to finish the whole thing.
Nevertheless, I’m not abandoning this project, just reknitting with 2 strands of thread merino. Positives are it’s thinner, more California winter appropriate and I should have enough yarn. Plus I was able to make those cable changes that have been bugging me since the very beginning but carried on anyways.
4/26 - Last perfect cool weekend to knit woolen projects before summer. I managed to knit up to 1” before the armhole for the back piece.
1/25/16 - Finally finished the back. It was nice coming back to this sweater at the beginning of January. I’ve been wanting to finish this for the longest time and kept starting new projects. Curse all the great patterns that keep getting released. I’ll start the front soon and I still have to split the former project’s merino strands from 4 to 2, which is going to suck.
4/15 - Finished the front. This would’ve been completed sooner if I didn’t knit the Stranger Cardigan along side. I had to fudge the armhole size because I realized I wasn’t exactly knitting to gauge, at least row wise. Oh well. Regardless, I knit to 6.25” and started the neck hole. I think the neck hole is a little too high, but we’ll see after I block and sew everything together. I would like to start the sleeves tonight/tomorrow, but it’s going to get stupidly hot over the next couple of days and I need to readjust the chart to match my new one.
6/15 - It’s been extremely unseasonably cool this week so I was able to finish both sleeves! I’m debating whether I should sew everything and be done or block and not finish until September.
6/18 - Finally finished. Didn’t block before sewing because I wanted this done. I should’ve lightly blocked the sleeves, oh well, washing and flat drying over time should be fine.
