These mitts are knitted in the colors of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, hence the name. I reversed the colors for the second mitt, making the mitts “fraternal twins.”

I followed the directions through the thumb gusset.

Modifications:
I did one more thumb gusset decrease so that I once again had 44 stitches. Then I knit 5 rounds plain, 10 rounds of 2 x 2 rib, then 5 rounds plain. I used the sewn bind off.
